The nominal value, or value stated on the label, is a target value mentioned by the manufacturer for a given attribute such as viscosity, melting point or number of dextrose equivalent. It is different from the result of the test stated on a certificate of analysis.
If, for example, the substance has a nominal value of 400 mPa.s, and the result obtained when testing is 420 mPa.s (result stated on the certificate of analysis), this represents 105 per cent of the nominal value.
