Food contact materials and articles made from metals and alloys have to comply with the general provisions of Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004. When checking compliance, the specific release limits established by the Council of Europe should be taken into account and recommendations for experimental testing followed. The technical guide provides official recommendations that have been endorsed by the Council of Europe member states participating in the work, but it is not a legally binding document; the recommendations become legally binding when they are incorporated into national law.
