‘Unless otherwise stated, in a test or assay, the symmetry factor (tailing factor) of the peak used for quantitation is 0.8-1.8.’

This requirement applies to the peak used for the quantitation (external standardisation) in all tests (organic, inorganic impurities, etc.) or in assays performed by LC or GC.

Consequently, it does not apply to analytical procedures using area normalisation as the quantitation procedure.
