New and revised texts are submitted for adoption at the three European Pharmacopoeia Commission (EPC) sessions held every year. These texts are published in the European Pharmacopoeia roughly three to four months after their adoption and aboutnine months before their implementation date.

Corrected texts are effective as soon as they are published. Corrections are to be taken into account no later than the end of the month following publication of the corrected text.

In exceptional cases, the texts can be implemented earlier than the scheduled date. When this happens, a notification is published – for example on the EDQM website, the European Pharmacopoeia landing page and, where appropriate, in Pharmeuropa.
